The cons of having Social Media in the workplace is that it makes it easier for people to give the company viruses or go into their system and leak information. Since much of the users are in the younger generation then it is less likely that a company that is targeted towards older people should use social media. Most of the older generation prefer to go do any shopping online rather than surfing the web which make things stretchy because they do not know how well the product will work rather than in person. Social media can also hurt the company if there are negative comments going around which could make a dent in their sells. Also other big factors to weigh in are that it does loss the company productivity. There is also concern of people sharing information within the company to other people. There are also some legal troubles that a company could get into if their employees post something offensive of inappropriate. This could cost the company their reputation, millions of dollars or even both. Therefore, it is a major concern to let worker use social media in the workplace that is why so little of the companies let social media usage for safety of their company.
Summary
What I have found through research was that there is a lot of things to take into account. There are many pros as well as cons, but there should be moderation in how companies that would like. The company should have someone specifically who is in charge of just social media in the workplace but not for leisure, strictly for work. If a costumer is asking a question then the person in charge will respond to any comments of concerns that they may have. Companies do have reason to block social media on company devices because it does slow down broadband and loss of productivity. There is moderation to all of this and with the right restrictions and rules the company could be one that sky rockets with success with social media in the workplace.
